The following pages are intended for the use of such native preachers as are appointed to minister to Christian congregations, without having enjoyed the advantages of a regular theological education. They contain a few plain directions for the composition of sermons, illustrated by one discourse given in full, and by a series of seventy skeletons, every one of which was originally prepared for the pulpit, and has actually served as the substratum of a sermon or address in Bengåli. The series commences with twelve historical subjects, which are followed by nine sketches explanatory of the Lord's Prayer. The remaining skeletons are arranged according to the biblical order of the texts which they are intended to illustrate. Should it be discovered that some weighty topics are onlitted, the author hopes that such an omission may not be regarded as designed, but attributed, to the circumstance that, in making his selection, he was obliged to reject, as unfit to bear the light of publicity, very many outlines of discourses on important subjects. - May the Lord be pleased to own this little volume, and make it an instrument of spiritual good to many.
