( 22 ) volume of Nature is operto all, and that volume contains a Re. velation, clearly teaching, inostrong and legible characters, the great truths of religion and, morality; and giving us as much knowledge of our state after death, as is necessary for the attainment of future blessedness yet adapted to the present state of our mental faculties. Now, as the Hindoo Religion contains motions of God and of human duty which coincide with that Revelation, we have availed ourselves of extracts from works which are the great depositories of the national faith, and which have the advantage of national associations on their side, for disseminating the principles of pure religion among our countrymen.” Baboo Raj Narain Bose, in his recent lecture on the Superiority of Hindooisin, said that Brahmoism is the Viswajanina or Catholic Religion as well as the highest developed form of Hindooism. From the above extracts it will be clear that, though recognising the Hindoo Shastras as the basis of Brahmoism, we have never ndervalued Nature and Reason. Hence it is not strange that ... assages of the nature, quoted from the Tattwabodhini Patriku by our friends, would have appeared in the columns of that journal. Though maintaining that Brahmoism is Hindooism we bow to Truth wherever found, the Shastras themselves declaring the soereignty of Reason. They say: “Anything reasonable is accep sible though uttered by a child; any thing unreasonable should be jected as grass though uttered by the god Brahmá (the revealer of the Vedas to man).” Judging by the standard of Reason, if we maintain that Hindooism is superior to other religions and contains every thing to satisfy our spiritual wants, we do not certainly say anything which is inconsistent with the principles of ThefSm.
