He was born at Kolkata. He is a collector of old coins, stamps, medals and a poet. His grandmother was Swarnalata Chakraborty,a writer from vintage Magazine 'Basumoti'group along with Ashapurna Debi. His father is Jayanta Chakraborty, a postal department Central Government employe and was a carrom player, played in Bengal championship.He also was the editor of 1980s magazine "Samajer Darpana" and was associated with Paschimbanga Rajja lotari once. 
       Yogabrata is also associated with writing and painting. He was a former member of Nikhil Bharot Sishu sahitto samsad and Howrah jela sishu sahitto songothon. He is now an active member of 'Protiddhoni' potrika, a monthly magazine released from University of Calcutta, khudiram Sikha prangon . His interest and demand in antiquity became flourished from his childhood.
