বাঙ্গালার ইতিহাস یادد গণের বংশাবলীতে র্তাহাদিগকে রামচন্ত্রের পুত্র কুশের বংশধররূপে বর্ণিত করা হইয়াছে। কিন্তু স্বৰ্য্যবংশের চারণগণ রাঠোরগণকে হিরণ্যকশিপুর বংশধর বলিয়া থাকে" । বিখ্যাত প্রত্নতত্ত্ববিদ তার রামকৃষ্ণ গোপাল ভাণ্ডারকরের মতানুসারে রাষ্ট্রকুটগণ রট উপাধিধারী ক্ষত্রিয়-বংশজাত। ইহারাই মহারাষ্ট্রের প্রাচীন অধিবাসী এবং ইহাদিগের নামান্থসারে মহারাষ্ট্র দেশের নামকরণ হইয়াছে, মৌর্য্যবংশীয় সম্রাট অশোকের সময়েও রট বা রাষ্ট্রকুটগণ মহারাষ্ট্র দেশের অধিবাসী ছিল। রাষ্ট্রকুট রাজগণের তাম্রশাসন সমূহে তাহারা আপনাদিগকে যদুবংশজাত বলিয়া পরিচয় দিয়াছেন"। দাক্ষিণাত্যে ইলুৱা পৰ্ব্বত গুহায় দশাবতার মূৰ্ত্তির নিয়ে মান্তক্ষেতের রাষ্ট্রকুট রাজবংশের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা দন্তিবর্ষার নাম পাওয়া গিয়াছে। ইনি সম্ভবতঃ খৃষ্টীয় সপ্তম শতাব্দীর দ্বিতীয় পাদে বিদ্যমান ছিলেন । ইহার পূৰ্ব্বেও দাক্ষিণাত্যে রাষ্ট্রকুটগণের অধিকার ছিল; কারণ চালুক্যরাজ প্রথম জয়সিংহ কৃষ্ণের পুত্র ইন্দ্র নামক অষ্টশত হস্তীর অধিপতি রাষ্ট্রকুট (on) If the name Ratta was strange, it might be pronounced Ratta, Ratha or Raddi.
