How shall I thank you, my noble, my illustrious, my great friend' ? You have saved me. My late letters have, no doubt, given you some idea of our position; so, I shall not dwell upon it, and I think I may now safely say that my troubles are at an end for the future, since I am in your hands. I must tell you again that unless you raise money for me by mortgaging my property, it is impossible for me to get on here or go out to India as a Barrister, for I was without a pice from Calcutta for a year and my debts are many and I must have money to pay thcm off.
