হরিদাস সাধু। Tð C ম্যাকগ্রেগর ও ডাক্তার ম্যারে উভয়ে সাধুকে পরীক্ষা করিয়া দেখিলেন যে, তঁহার সর্বাঙ্গ শীতল এবং দেহে প্ৰাণ নাই ; বুক পরীক্ষা করিয়া দেখিলেন, বুকে স্পন্দন শব্দ নাই। চােখের পাতা উল্টাইয়া দেখিলেন, চোখে ঘোলা পড়িয়া আছে। ডাক্তার মহাশয়েরা সমস্ত দেহ পরীক্ষা করিবার পর সবিস্ময়ে যখন বলিলেন, এ দেহ পুনজীবিত হওয়া অসম্ভব, তখন সাধুর শিষ্যেরা গুরুর চৈতন্যসম্পাদনের জন্য বিশেষ চেষ্টা করিতে লাগিলেন। কয়েক ঘণ্টাকাল শুশ্ৰষা করিবার পর সাধুর জড়দেহে প্ৰাণের সঞ্চার হইল। ক্ৰমে তিনি চক্ষুরুন্মীলন করিলেন, দুই একটী কথা কহিতে লাগিলেন, এবং হস্তপদাদি নাড়িতে লাগিলেন। ডাক্তারের তঁহাকে পুনরায় পরীক্ষা করিয়া অবাক হইয়া গেলেন। সংজ্ঞাহীন সাধু সংজ্ঞাপ্ৰাপ্ত হইলে মহারাজ রণজিৎ সিংহ তাহার সম্মানের জন্য কয়েকটী তোপধ্বনি করিতে আজ্ঞা দেন। ডাক্তার ম্যাকগ্রেগর তাহার পুস্তকে হরিদাসের বিষয় কিরূপ লিখিয়াছেন দেখুন, “A fakir who arrived at Lahore engaged to bury himself for, any length of time, shut up in a box, and without either food or drink. Runjit naturally disbelieved the man's assertions, and was determined to put them to the test. For this purpose the Fakir was shut up in a wooden box, which was placed in a small appartment below middle of the ground; there was a folding door to his box, which was secured by lock and key. Surrounding this appartment there was the garden house, the door of which was likewise locked, and out-side the whole, a high wall, having its doorway built up with bricks and mud. In order to prevent any one from approaching the place, a line of Sentries was placed, and relived and regular intervals. The strictest watch was kept up for the space of forty days and forty nights.
