In short they have become so popular among all ranks of the people,that there is no private unusical coucert (baithaki gan) where these songs are not sung,and no Bengali who does not hurn to himself sonne oue of them,or meditate on the precepts they teach, in his silent hours. Songsters have been known, who by more unusical recital of these songs without the aid of instrumenst, have made so deep an impression upon the hearts of the audience, that some of the latter have been observed to reform their conduct at the instruction conveyed in them and turn worshippers of the one True God. It perhaps may not be too much to say, that these songs have been more effective in the wide diffusion of Brahmoism, than the religious works, sermons, and discourses, which have from time to time been put forth by the Brahmo Somaj owing to their intrinsie merits' and the extensive area over which they are spread.
