NMB& নদীয়া-কাহিনী । এই বচন অনুসারে সরস্বতী নদীর উত্তরে দক্ষিণ প্ৰয়াগ এবং তাহারও উত্তৰে প্ৰদুষ্মনগরএর স্থান নির্দিষ্ট হয়, তাহা হইলেই ‘চাকদহ মণ্ডল"ই శిjHR বলিয়া খ্যাত ছিল অনুমিত হয়। রঘুনন্দন যখন ইহাকে প্ৰদ্যুম্ননগর আখ্যা প্ৰদান করিয়াছেন সেই সময়ে বিভিন্ন ঘটকগণের কারিকায় এই স্থানের “আচম্বিতা” নামও দেখা যায়। “আচম্বিতা” দেবীবর ঘটকের ৩৬ মেলের এক মেল। জমিদারি কাগজাদিতেও ইহার আচম্বিতা নাম পাওয়া যায়। এই প্ৰত্যুষ্মনগর পূর্বে বহু দেব মন্দির ও মঠাদি দ্বারা সুশোভিত ছিল জানা যায় । এখনও দুই একটা প্রাচীন দেবতাহীন মন্দির এখানে বিদ্যমান আছে ।* বহু পূর্বের সঠিক বিবরণ জানা না। যাইলেও দেড়শত বৎসর পূর্ব হইতে ইহার যে বিবরণ প্ৰাপ্ত হওয়া যায় তাহাতে দেখা যায় যে এই স্থানটী তদানীন্তন কালের সমৃদ্ধ স্থানের অন্যতম শ্ৰীসম্পন্ন গ্ৰাম ছিল। মহারাজা কৃষ্ণচন্দ্রের সময়েও ইহা মহারাজের চারি সমাজের এক সমাজ বলিয়া পরিচিত ছিল। এখানে ও ইহার নিকটবত্তী পালপাড়া, মনসাপোতা, জাশোড়া প্ৰভৃতি স্থান সকলে বহু টোলাধারী ব্ৰাহ্মণ পণ্ডিতের বাস ছিল । “কুবাণ ব* প্ৰণেতা ন্যায় ও তন্ত্রের There is an old temple at Chagdaha which at present lies in a neglected and dilapidated state. The owners Babu Kalikumar Chaudhuri and others of Palpara having taken no care about its preservation. The owners are willing to give up their right to the temple if it is kept in repair by Government, and if they are allowed to use it as a place of worship in the customary way. There has been no idol in the temple nor it is used as a place of regular worship now. The temple is of ordinary size and has ornamental cut brick-work. Its age may, as it appears and as has been reported by persons wh had the inscription read, be Soo years. There is no idol there now. People say there was a lingam in it. Mr. J. S. M. Beglar, when Archæological Surveyor of Bengal took measurement of it and also a photograph, There were two inscriptions on stone, which were taken off by Roy Ramsankar Sen, Subdivisional Oficer of Ranaghat, and although afterwards returned, are not forthcoming.
