There was never any mistaking his opinions regarding the Extremists, or their party cries. They are marked by courage, sturdy commonsense, and humour, the views to be expected from a man of his breadth of view, his learning and shrewdness, his firm loyalty and his warm sympathies. They are set forth in two tracts of the times, 'PRAKRITI RAHASHIYAʼ AND “ʻBrDEsHI RAHAsHYA.ʼ The page of both will repay attentive perusal by all, whatever their race, creed, or political opinions. The first is a plea for toleration and commonseñse, and exposition of facts, political, commercial and economical. The second a masterly essay by a cultured and fervent Hindu on the necessity for introspection and social reform, and exposition of the British work in India painted in true perspective. Both works throw merciless ridicule upon the stupidities of boycott and so plainly the evils that arise from it and from like fanatical errors. We would like to quote at length from each of these essays, but space forbids. The pity is that whilst such books exist, the books that receive the widest advertisement are the garbled and poisoned works of which so much was heard during the recent state trials.
