He gave a valuable property to his guru for the support of his family. The ancestors of the Brahman priesthood know as Gossains were the family gurus of the Mitras of Bagbazar. That Gokul was rightly called a Croeus of Calcutta, is illustrated by the fact that he spent ten lacs of rupees on the marriage ceremony of his second son. The family dwelling house of the Mitras of Bagbazar is one of the largest to be seen in the northern division of Calcutta. It has a splendid chandney-quite a rare one of its kind -and it has often struck us why it is not used as a religious lecture hall, for it is eminently fitted for "that purpose. The name of the Bengali poetsaint-Ram Prosad Sen-is familiar to all findus of Bengal. Ram Prosad, it may be mentioned, was born at Halisahar, opposite the town of Eughli, and was employed for some time as a sirear under Gokul Mitra. Ram Prosad composed a song, delineating the life of Gokul, and this is sung till this day by wandering minstrels in Bengal. Ram Prosad was a great admirer of Gokul, which was natural in view of the spiritual affinity which existed between them.
