! xiii. ) From the Englishmandated, Alonday, December 30, 1972, Places of pilgrimage in India are generally a coastaat source of anxiety to the medical authorities. In Puri, the Government has not a little trouble in enforcing the laws of sanitation. But there are signs that leaders of the Rindu community are now beginning to realise their responsibilities in this direction. Some effort is being made to systematise charities in Puri. Rai Wehari Lal Mitra Bahadur, of Calcutta, who is a well known friend of the Refuge, is now on a visit to Puri. He has given Rs 1,000 to the Leper Asylum there and Rs. 300 to an institution making the reception of the pilgrims in that sacred city of the Hindus. If others follow his eaample the gruesome sights of disease in the streets of Puri and other centres of pilgrimage will soon become a thing of the past.
