১৪ জুলাই মধুসূদন লিখিয়াছেন—
I have nearly done one-half of the Second Book of Meghanad, You shall see it in due time. It is not that I am more industrious than my neighbours; I am at times as lazy a dog as over walked on two legs; but I have fits of enthusiasm that come on me, occasionally, and then I go like the mountain-torrent!...
...let me hear what favour the glorious son of Ravana finds in your eyes. He was a noble fellow, and, but for that scoundrel Bivishan, would have kicked the monkey-amny into the son. By the bye, if the father of our Poetry had given Ram human companions I could have made a regular Ilind of the death of Meghanad. As it is, you must not expect any battle scenes. পরবর্ত্তী কয়েকটি পত্রে (রাজনারায়ণকে লিখিত) ‘মেঘনাদবধ কাব্য রচনা সম্বন্ধে অনেক খবর লিখিত হইয়াছে; কিন্তু দুঃখের বিষয়, এই সকল পত্রের অধিকাংশ তারিখহীন। এইগুলি হইতে ‘মেঘনাদবধ কাব্য সম্পর্কিত অংশগুলি সঙ্কলন করিয়া এই ভূমিকায় পরে যোজিত হইয়াছে।
১৮৬০ খ্রীষ্টাব্দের ৩রা আগস্টের পত্রে মধুসূদন রাজনারায়ণকে লিখিয়াছেন—
I am so happy you like my Meghanad. I mean to extend it to 9 সর্গs. I have finished the second, and as soon as I can get a copy made, you shall have it. I hope the second Book wil enchant you! The name is “বরুণানী,” but I have turned out one syllable. To my ears this word is not hall so musical as বারুণী and I don't know why I should bother myself about Sanskrit rules.—‘জীবন-চরিত’, পৃ. ৩৩১।
রাজনারায়ণকে লিখিত ইহার পরের তারিখ-যুক্ত পত্র ১৮৬১ খ্রীষ্টাব্দের ২৯ আগস্টের। মধ্যে কেশবচন্দ্র গঙ্গোপাধ্যায়কে দুইখানি পত্রে ‘মেঘনাদবধ’ রচনা ও প্রকাশ সম্বন্ধে তিনি লিখিয়াছিলেন:—
