SS ) a subject in the higher examinations of the University, might be very ye. taught through the medium of the vernacular languages up to the Ent nog Examination, though in regard to History and Mathematics I would restrict the proposal up to the standard of the Middle English examination only. 3. With regard to the second proposal, vis, making the vernacular languages a part of the curriculum in the F. A. and B. A. Examinations in addition to the existing classical second languages, my opinion is, that, so far as the Bengali speaking candidates of the Calcutta University are con cerned, Bengali should be included in the list of the second languages for those higher examinations. The status of the Bengali literature has at present advanced so far that, I think there is no more fear of the standard of high education deteriorating at all by the proposed elevation of Bengali.
