( 8ం ) would reply that that should be left to teachers as at present. They will bear in mind which language is to be used at the Entrance Exmamination and within the College classes. V. With reference to Q. II. I am of opinion that the combination of the two subjects therein suggested does not offer the true remedy for the very important educational necessity which you have under your consideration. I am, (ientlemen, Yours faithfully, JoHN MoRR I SON, Principal Gen. Assembly’s Inst. From NYAi, AN KER NILMONEY MUKERJEE, M. A. B. L. RABU HIRENDRANATH DUTT, M. A. and others. lated 5th January 1895. SIKS. . I would restrict the use of the vernacular languages as a mediun of instruction in history. geography and arithmetic up to the 4th class of an Entrance school. 2. I do not at all approve of the proposal to add the vernacular language to Sanscrit and thereby emasculate the lattter in the F A examination. But I would have an alternative course in Bengali under certain restriction. 3. A vernacular F A course should, in my opinion, consist of prose poetry and grammar and rhetoric and the marks assigned should not exceed one-half of the marks allotted to sanskrit. 4. On no account and under no limitations would I have a vernacular alternative or additional course for the B A examination, simply for the reau that in the present state of vernacular literature (I speak of Bengal in particular) no such course can be fixed, as is likely to be read by advanced students of our college with interest and profit. I remain yours truly, NILMoNI MooKERJI.
