But we have seen how their kmalicious designs were defeated. It was, probably, owing in part to the example, and good principles, and good advice of Daniel, that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego did not yield to the king's commands. As the Bible says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise.” r CHAPTER VI. The destruction of Tyre. There was a large and wealthy city in the western part of Asia, which had Ro! yet been conquered by Nebuchadnezzar. It was Tyre, the capital of Phenicia, a narrow strip of country on the seacoast, north of Palestine. It was the greatest commercial eity in the world; and carrying, on a rich trade with every part of Asia, Africa, and Europe, it had. become exceedingly magnificent and powerful. It was built upon a peninsula, so. that the sea sure
