So it had been distinctly predicted by the ovo prophets, Isaiah and Jeremiah, that a great variety, of people should come together to fight against Babylon, led on by the Median and Persian armies. Thus God had said, by the prophet Isaiah, when speaking of the Babylonians, (ch. xiii. 17.) “Behold I will stir up the Medes against them.”—(ch. xxi. 2.) “Go up, O Elain ; besiege, O Media.”—(ch. xiii. 4, 5.) “The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle. They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord, and the weapons of his imignation, to destroy the whole land.” By the prophet Jeremial also He had said, “ Lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the nor? 驚 and they shall set themselves in array against her.” (ch. 1.9.) It cannot but be observed howpunctually these minute and positive prophecies were fulfilled !
