նան, यत्रधलब [ Հայծ বলিতে হয় যে আজিও অক্সারণে প্রচলিত বাঙ্গালা ছাড়িয়া সংস্কৃত ব্যবহারে, ভাই ছাড়িয়া অকারণে ভ্ৰাতৃ শব্দের ব্যবহারে অনেক লেখকের বিশেষ অমুরক্তি আছে । অনেক বাঙ্গালা রচনা যে নীরস নিস্তেজ এবং অস্পষ্ট ইহাই তাহার কারণ । দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণীর শব্দ, অর্থাৎ যে সকল সংস্কৃত শব্দ রূপান্তর না হইয়াই বাঙ্গালায় প্রচলিত আছে, তৎসম্বন্ধে শুামাচরণ বাবু বিশেষ কিছু বলেন নাই, বলিবার প্রয়োজনও ছিল না ; কিন্তু তৃতীয় শ্রেণী অর্থাৎ যে সকল শব্দ সংস্কৃতেব সহিত সম্বন্ধশুন্য তৎসম্বন্ধে যাহা বলিয়াছেন তাহা অত্যন্ত সারগর্ভ এবং আমরা তাহার সম্পূর্ণ অনুমোদন কৰি । সংস্কৃতপ্রিয় লেখকদিগের অভ্যাস যে এই শ্রেণীর শব্দ সকল তাহারা রচনা হইতে একেবারে বাহিব কবিয়া দেন। অন্ত্যের রচনায় সে সকল শব্দের ব্যবহার শেলের স্যায় তাহাদিগকে বিদ্ধ করে। ইহার পর মূর্ধত আর আমরা দেখি না। যদি কোন ধনবান ইংবেজের অর্থ-ভাণ্ডারে হালি এবং বাদশাহী দুই প্রকার মোহর থাকে এবং সেই ইংরেজ যদি জাত্যভিমানের বশ হইয়া বিবির মাথাওয়াল মোহর রাখিয়া ফার্সি লেখা মোহরগুলি ফেলিয়া দেয়, তবে সকলেই সেই ইংরেজকে ঘোবস্তর মূখ বলিবে । কিন্তু ভাবিয়া দেখিলে এই পণ্ডিতেরা সেইমত মূখ। এই সম্বন্ধে শ্যামাচরণ বাবু লিখিয়াছেন, “Purism is radically unsound, and has its origin in a spirit of narrowness. In the free commingling of nations, there must be borrowing and giving. Can anything be more absurd than to think of keeping language pure, when blood itself cannot be kept pure ? No human language has ever been perfeetly pure, any more than any huuan race has been pure. Infusion of foreign elements do, in the long run, enrich langua‘ges, just as infusion of foreign blood improves races. Seeing then that languages, as men speak them, must be mixed, impure, heterogeneous ; to reject words like garib (Ar. garib) and dag (Ar. dag) & from books, on account of their foreign lineage would be most unreasonable. Current words of Persian or Arabic origin connect us Hindus of Bengal with Moosalman Bengalis, with the entire Hindustani speaking population of India, and even with Persians and Arabs.
