From 懿 "ኙ BABU ASWIN KU MAR DUTT, Brojomohun Institution, Barisal, January 29, п895. SIR, ས། With reference to your Circular dated the 5th Instant inviting our opinion as to whether the medium of instruction'ın History, Geography and Mathematics up to the Entrance or Middle English standard should be the vernacular languages and whether the study of these languages should be a dart of the curriculum in the F. A. and B. A. Examinations, we beg to submit the following observations :- ' . We would make the vernacular languages the medium of instruction in the subjects referred to up to the 5th Class of Entrance Schools. Most of the failures at the Entrance Examination are due to the boys being weak in English, and if they shall have to study most of the subjects in Vernacular up to the Entrance class, their knowledge of English would be weakerstill. In order to see boys well-grounded in English at the Entrance class, we think, it is necessary that they should begin studying History, Geography &c. in Eaglish from the 4th Class. Up to the 5th, we are of opinion, study of such subjects may with advantage be conducted in Wernacular, as that would create an interest in the minds of the boys which can never be expected from their study of such subjects in English, as the mental strain necessary to understand English is apt to deaden the interest in the subjects. محصور 2. We should like very much to see students appearing at the F. A. and the B. A. Examinations required to submit original compositions in the Vernacular languages. To awaken a livelier interest in the study of such languages it would be very reasonable, we suppose, to cut down a small portion of the course in the Classical second languages for the introduction of good thoughtful text books in the Vernacular. Yours faithfully, AswINI KUMAR DUTT, BRAENDRANATH CHATTERJEE, 5 From BABU AMBICA CHARAN SARKAR. Head Master, Nawab's H. E. School, Murshidabad, TTO THE MEMBERS OF THE BANGIYA SAHITYA PARISHAD.
