I.-That all proper names, geographical and historical, shall be tranand not translated with the exception of such proper names as ave already become popularised in the vernaculars. aII-The transliteration shall be phonetic according to the received profaciation current in the country to which the places or persons belong, the exception of such natines as are already thoroughly anglicised, and d'hose of which the pronunciation canot be ascertained readily. s III.-That in transliteration every attention shall be paid to the sounds the Sanskrit letters, especially to the vowels and sibilants. W.IV.-That Indian names shall be spelt accoding to approved pronunsiation and spelling, and vulgar corruptions shall be avoided. -W-it being advisable that technical terms should be uniforin through "0"م ஃ all school books, such terms shall be taken in the case of geography, where practicable, from the Wall-maps in most common use. VI.-The Committee recommend that a list be made of proper names, geographical and historical, in common use with their proper spelling, and published for the guidance of authors. The committee are prepared to revise such a list and suggest in provements. WIII.- The Committee advise that authors in preparing new works should be guided as far as possible by the above general principles. The Committee recominend that after January 1881 all new text-books or new editions should be expected to conform to the above rules. ' ষোল বৎসর পূৰ্ব্বে কলিকাতা স্কুলবুক সোসাইটি আমার অনুরোধে বাঙ্গালা গ্রন্থে ভৌগো'লিক স্থানবাচক নামগুলি লিখিবার জন্য কতকগুলি নিয়ম স্থির করেন। কিন্তু সেই নিয়মiDD 0LBD DDDDBD D DBBD BB DBD D BDD SS BBBDB DBDD DBBD DBDS য়াছে। বাঙ্গালা দুই খানি পুস্তকে বানান বিষয়ে ঐক্য নাই, এবং পুস্তকে ও মানচিত্রে মিলে না। বালকদিগের ইহাতে অত্যন্ত অসুবিধা। ভাল ভাল গ্রন্থেও দেশীয় নামের ও বানান ঠিক্ নাই। আমি একখানি পুস্তকের এক পৃষ্ঠায় ২০/৩০টি বানান ভুল ধরিয়াছিলাম। এই সকল পুস্তক পাঠশালায় ব্যবহারের জন্য অনুমোদন করাও চলে না ; অথচ যখন সকল পুস্তকেরই এই দশা, অনুমোদন না করিলে বাঙ্গালা শিক্ষা একবারে বন্ধ হয়। এই নিমিত্ত সাধারণের অবগতির জন্য কতকগুলি নিয়ম নিৰ্দ্ধারণের প্রস্তাব করিতেছি; এবং এক বৎসর পর হইতে যে সকল ভৌগোলিক গ্রন্থে এই নিয়ম অবলম্বিত না হইবে, তাহ পাঠ্যপুস্তক निरीष्नी जडा मल कब्रियन न। R
